The story
Alex drives a cab in Springfield, Missouri. Nine years home after seventeen inside, he runs the night shift in a Crown Victoria with two hundred thousand miles on it and a meter that never lies. He keeps his head down, his fares moving, and his past where it belongs — behind him.
Then one October night, dispatch sends him to the county jail. His fare: a Russian mob figure just walked out of the gates, and the man takes one look at Alex and sees something he can use. A cabbie hears everything and is noticed by no one. The perfect ghost.
What starts as one ride turns into a second, and then the kind of money Alex has never touched — and the kind of attention a man with his record cannot afford. Every mile pulls him deeper into a world of crews, ledgers, and debts that don't get paid in cash. Alex has spent nine years proving he's not the man he was. Now the underworld is offering him a reason to forget.
